CD ReviewsSlow, trippy house that works quite swimmingly Richard Diaz | 10/06/2002 (4 out of 5 stars) "Yes, it's painfully obvious by now that there are too many DJs out there and way too many compilations. So the thought of yet another bloke with twelve more records championing the underground sounds about as inviting as an Ian Van Dahl concert tour. But low and behold Tyler Stadius (no, me neither) takes on deep, chuggy house that's head-trippingly slow, with skittering conga lines and upfront basslines. Now every spinner worth his crate blathers on and on about their love for the bassline, but Stadius puts it at the fore. And it works, quite swimmingly, from Jay Tripwire's appropo "Acid Soul" and DJ Buck's "Release the Tension" to the even slower, strobed-out whispers of Tribalation's "Look Behind Your Eyes." A DJ taking the tempo down? That's crazy talk, but the juxtaposition of off-kilter and funky (especially on Dano, Chus & Ceballos "Deep Architecture and Chloe "Another Kinds of Dream") deals trumps time and again. Dance music you can't dance to? Of course that was gonna work, why didn't someone think of that sooner? Ace."
