CD Reviews

Love It!!!

"I had to really search to find this album. The only reason I knew about it is because I had the pleasure of meeting with Ty (for the second time) in Vegas last summer. I told him how much I loved Rock Garden and he informed me that he had a new album coming out in a few months. I must say that it's really awesome to find out about a new release from the artist himself! Anyway, I think Balance is probably Ty's most personal work to date; more so than even Rock Garden or Safety. The lyrics on this album are very powerful and they really resonate with me. Even if you can't relate to the words, you'll definitely feel the music. Ty is a master when it comes to melodic rock and this album is no exception. It is just as rocking as Rock Garden and just as deep and profound as Safety. You could say that it is a perfect 'balance' of the two. ;) I highly recommend this album and if you haven't seen King's X live, you simply must. King's x should be one of the biggest bands in the world. Why they aren't is total mystery to me."
Masterpiece Number 4.

"To many, particularly musicians who can appreciate them on another level altogether, King's X is the greatest band ever, and the most criminally-overlooked band, ever. Ty Tabor, King's X's legendary guitarist, could quite possibly be the greatest living guitar player in the world.

His solo efforts, "Moonflower Lane," "Safety," "Rock Garden," and now, "Balance," demonstrate what he brings to King's X as a guitar player, singer, songwriter, and arranger. Every one of his three previous releases have been phenomenal, and "Balance," is no different.

What's particularly great about this work is the obvious emphasis on the guitar work. Many of the songs open with heavy and memorable guitar riffs. Such is true of the album opener, "Money Mouth," which also features Ty's signature harmonies, his unpredictable and spine-tingling chord changes, layered guitar parts, and a shredding guitar solo.

The album is also lyrically meaningful. There are no, "ooh baby I need/love/want you," lyrics to be found on any Ty album. "'Cause We Believed (Blame It)" is a great example of Ty's lyrical talent.

Some of the album's best tracks are, "Good That Way," "Everything Changed," "My Own Superstition," and "Thank God." In reality, though, all the songs here are great. And hearing Ty play guitar never gets old. Thankfully, there's lots of that here. Like the great solo in "I'm OK with you," the album's last track.

If you're a King's X fan, a Ty fan, or just a fan of great songwriting and great guitar-playing, then this album should be in rotation on your playlist."
