The only thing i don't like

(4 out of 5 stars)

"about twerk's "living vicariously through burnt bread" is the CD art and the CD title. You're bound to think that you're going to be listening to something NIN-ish or some dark Skinny Puppyish throwback to 80s industrial dance. Instead you get very atmospheric, stripped down, glitch-house that fluctuates between static feedback infused ambient and subtle 4/4 glitch. twerk could be considered a more minimal sutekh. Whereas sutekh focuses on straight forward 4/4 glitch-house, twerk takes straight forward glitch-house and infuses it with a dark downtempo, buzzed out, high voltage feedback sensibility. 'from green to brown' is a high voltage buzzed out downtempo number with clicky percussion and reverbating keyboards that slips under you and carries you away in its crunchy rhythms.'return to hokkaido' consists only of weird vocals samples, static, high pitched echoes and low eerie rumblings.the CD continues in this vein, slowly drifting along a stream of never boring sounds, rhythms, atmoshperic noise, strange crunches, clicks, reverb and sometimes dance beats. But make no mistake, this isn't dreary electronic ambient. Not by a long shot! the tracks 'motala' and 'kiu_kiu' are the standouts. 'motala' is a glitchy take on deep house. Warm reverbating keyboards, clicky rhythms, straight forward 4/4 beats and a weird "uh" vocal sample that sets up the percussive rhythm.'kiu_kiu' starts off with warm vibes and arrhythmic clicks that subtly takes on this warm, fuzzy, all engulfing house rhythm like nothing you've ever heard before. truly the best track on this disc.'passage of private life' is also a notable mention. It takes the cowbell percussion of old school house, warps and fuses it with stuttering mouse on mars meets autechre beats and calls it it's own. if you can get past the cover art, you won't be disappointed with this twerk release. nice.1 from brown to green
