"The highlight of the year 2004, for me, was sitting on the beach in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, spliffed out of my mind, and listening to King Tubby's In Fine Style with earphones, for the first time. I have been digging deeper and deeper into dub reggae for the last few years, always looking for something new ( at least new to me ) and exciting. The young lady at the music store in Jamaica recommended this highly to me, and am I ever glad I took her advice and bought this collection of dub grooves. King Tubby was an innovator, a seer of the future. When you think about it, his practice of stripping a song down to its bare essentials, then adding and removing parts, bits of toasting, sound effects, and echo laden, often ghostly vocals, is EXACTLY what modern day remixers are doing with electronic dance music. Although most of the tracks on this collection have that very distinctively analogue sound ( "tape hiss" that can never be removed completely ) they sound incredibly fresh, and light years ahead of their time. Highly recommended for fans of dub reggae."
