Amazon.comAn ongoing benefit of the music industry's alternative rock madness is uncompromising bands such as Trenchmouth getting major-label distribution. The Chicago quartet has released two dense and challenging indie releases, and it hasn't altered its approach one bit now that Trenchmouth vs. the Light of the Sun is on Skene!/East West. Songs such as "Washington! Washington!" and "Saw A Ghost" combine snakey guitar lines, rolling Latin rhythms delivered at hardcore punk tempos, and the political ranting of lead screamer Damon Locks. The band hasn't escaped its Gang of Four and Bad Brains fixations, but its energy is limitless. --Jim DeRogatis
