CD Reviews

Greater than the sum of its parts

"When I first got TEX 3 a decade ago, I found a few songs that instantly grabbed me, copied them onto tapes and put the CDs back on the shelf. Recently, while loading my CD collection onto my computer, I listened to this with fresh ears, and discovered that the tracks I had once neglected were just as good as the rest and that each CD was best played start to finish, without picking and choosing particular cuts. Still hypnotic and trance-inducing, after all these years.

Disk One:

1. Air Liquide - Chromoplastic

2. 808 State - Mondonet

3. Banco de Gaia - Kincajou

4. Luke Slater's 7th Plain - Pearl

5. Pulse - Cariño (Silencio)

6. Joey Beltram - Judgement

7. Sun Electric - Whoshe

8. Holy Language feat. Dr. Motte - Energy

9. Resistance D - Unknown

10. Kinesthesia - Lave Trader

11. ?-Ziq - Roy Castle

12. Caustic Window - C*nt

Disk Two:

1. Mouse on Mars - Maus Mobil

2. Ultramarine - Before

3. Coco Steel and Lovebomb - San Fran

4. William Orbit - Barbarik

5. Inner Space - Araqua

6. Link - Avatar

7. Nüw Idol - Ancient Memory

8. The Grid - Big Foot

9. Alter Ego - Sex and Gender

10. Biosphere - The Third Planet

11. Infinity (Juan Atkins) - I-94

12. Eddie 'Flashin'' Fowlkes - Track 4

13. Emergency Broadcast Network - 3:78"

"There's just something about disk one of this double CD: the first nine tracks flow together in a most stimulating and hypnotic way (by Air Liquide, 808 State, Bando de Gaia, et al). I own a huge stack of Trance collections, including others from the Volume label (volumes 1 and 2, Breakbeat Science, etc.), but I've never found anything that switches me on like disk one of this set. Highly recommended."
