CD ReviewsClassic! D. Krueger | Charlotte, NC United States | 05/08/2004 (4 out of 5 stars) "My son, a HUGE train fan, loves this CD. He listens to it over and over; just laying in front of the player on his belly content as could be...you can't put a rating on that.I would have given it 5 stars but I did not want others to be mislead. If you enjoy the orchestra singers of days past, ie. Pennsylvania 6-5000, you will enjoy this CD tremendously, thus 5 stars. If you're not into the classic sound, this probably wouldn't be your choice. There's some great educational opportunities with these songs: geographical locations, biographies, science of trains, etc.In summary, you get a CD with catchy tunes that your child will love, for an affordable price, and it doesn't have the annoying kid singers or cheap sounding synthesized music." Well worth the price There was an old lady who lived in | Tennessee | 08/14/2004 (4 out of 5 stars) "Pros: * Good songs. The CD has almost all of the "basic" children's train tunes - usually the ones that they love the best. * Great price! My three preschoolers have their own kiddie CD player, but I hate to let them use their "nice" (read "expensive") CD's for fear they'll scratch them. This is one that they can play by themselves. Cons: * Poor sound quality. The recordings are all "old." That is, this is a compilation of recordings from (I would guess) the 1940's - 60's. There was no remixing or re-recording here for sound quality. Of course, this may be a plus for some fans of that old-time sound. Bottom line: All three of my little ones give this CD thumbs up. I only marked it down a star for the sound quality." More musty than classic bp | USA | 06/17/2005 (3 out of 5 stars) "I like mid-century pop and my 2 1/2 year old son loves trains so getting this CD was a no brainer right? The problem isn't the age or low fidelity of these tunes but their awkward, C-side, lack of musicality. The lone gem is Tootle the Cross-Country Engine, a Stephen Sondheim-esque theatrical narrative that mixes songs with dialogue. But my son refuses to listen to this CD despite my best attempts to spin it into his consciousness by playing it in the car. And for some reason he finds the Tootle song "sad" and when he listens to it he starts to cry."
