Synopsis

Mainstream country radio rarely challenges its listeners--after all, the airwaves are really about advertising, not music--and so the consultants nod approvingly at songs with the fewest rough edges. Tracy Lawrence, a hit-maker despite his odd, muffled tenor, knows how to survive both radio's choppy seas and his own frequently turbulent life; on Strong he presents a more mature look at both. There's some ripe sentimentality in "Paint Me a Birmingham," about a relationship gone bad. And "A Far Cry From You," about a man who physically leaves but is still shedding tears, offers the kind of wordplay radio loves. Yet Lawrence can deliver country's core values without schmaltz (the title song, a tribute to single mothers), and he can bring a lump to a listener's throat with a restrained vocal and powerful lyric ("Think of Me," which salutes firefighters, cops, EMS workers, and the military). But he's never stronger than on the old-fashioned country shuffle of "Sawdust on Her Halo" and on "The Questionnaire," which dramatically exposes the dead-end truth of a marriage. If Lawrence could ever pay more attention to his own instincts rather than the dictates of consultants, he'd leave behind a legacy stronger than just his chart positions. --Alanna Nash

Tracy Lawrence Makes a "STRONG" Return
J. Stauch | South Florida | 01/27/2005

"
Tracy Lawrence has one of those voices that is so familiar with every album. And so distinguishable that you know it's him the moment you hear his song. He can easily wrap around your emotions and get right to the core of your feelings. He truly has the "Country Sound", and this CD proves that from some songs that sound like the older traditional country that he does best and some that are the modern sound from today.

This CD touches on many subjects from family, love, heartbreak, and things that happen in ordinary people's lives. There's something for everyone to relate too. Along with a couple tracks that include that infamous "growl" that makes Tracy unique.

A CD has never been more appropriately named than "Strong" is for Tracy Lawrence. If you are a fan of Country music or Tracy Lawrence you need to give his new album "Strong a Listen"

Awesome CD

"This CD (Along with Gretchen Wilson's "Here's To The Party") is the best CD of the year, I have listened to him for about 3 years, and the more I listen to his music, the more I realize that he does NO bad songs. There is only one singer who is better than him, and that is George Strait. I would recommend ANY CD this man comes out with (I have 4, and I want to complete the entire collection), I would start with "Greatest Hits", and if you can get it "Tracy Lawrence Live", if you are unfamiliar with his music. But this should be apart of anyone's country collection."
Tracy Lawrence on a STRONG comeback

"This CD is great. My all-time favorite from Tracy. It's a wonderful arrangement of life stories that allow you to become a part of each song. Every song will touch on some part of your life and hit a nerve. The man is an awesome artist. WARNING: This CD is what country music should be!! Listen with caution, as you will be asking why these other so-called country artists are putting out music and trying to call it country music. Buy this CD. You will love it. DEDICATED Tracy Lawrence Fan in SC."
