Following collections of songs by Lalo, David, Goddard and Saint-Saëns, baritone Tassis Christoyannis and pianist Jeff Cohen turn their focus to Fernand de La Tombelle. Relatively unknown, he was a virtuoso organ player, a co-founder of the Schola Cantorum with Vincent d'Indy and a challenging and sophisticated composer. His Mélodies span a large portion of his life as a creator, from the romanticism of Saint-Saëns to the post-war years of Poulenc. His musical language favors the vocal style of Massenet but the harmonic richness and the variety of atmospheres prove La Tombelle was not an imitator.
