The world captured in the neoclassical mini-epics of pianist-composer Tim Janis is an idyllic place bursting with chest-swelling grandeur: breathtaking coastlines, luminous sunsets, endless amber waves of grain. Janis, performing on piano and synthesizer, expresses his vision by writing lushly orchestrated, soundtracklike works that he liberally adorns with swelling strings, yearning pennywhistle, emotive cymbal splashes, and heart-tugging crescendos--each brief piece charting a path to a happily-ever-after destination. The approach may be over-the-top for some listeners, but for others, it is an uplifting elixir of audio splendor. For Janis, that's the point. He is enthused by music's therapeutic potential and refers to his recordings and concerts as "music with a mission." So yes, at times Janis is a little guilty of overreaching in his pursuit of one shining moment after another. But the 35-year-old Maine resident, who operates his own independent label and in 2001 topped classical sales charts with his charitable Music of Hope, can also stir deeper emotions on a John Williams-like scale. Notable selections here include "Cape Ann," "Alton Bay," "Grand Lake," Ocean Isle," and a reflective piano interlude, "Star Island." The disc also has a hidden 15th track. --Terry Wood

"I Love "A Thousand Summers." It's gorgeous, it's lush...it's really the most beautiful music I have ever heard. Tim Janis writes the soundtrack for life. I have some of his other CDs and this one is quickly becoming my favorite!"

"This is probably Tim Janis's best work. The melodies are simply breathtaking. Tim usually comes up outstanding themes for his songs and this cd proves once again how great he really is. I dont know of a single composer who can come up with such memorable songs. Bravo!!!"

"Tim Janis has more than surpassed himself in his new album. His compositions are stirring, moving and guaranteed to put you in a mellow, relaxed state of inner serenity. A Thousand Summers is aptly named as it evokes memories of summers past;feelings of today's summer, and dreams of future summers where the unknown will become the known. Just when you think you have heard the greatest track, you suddenly hear another one equally as great. The entire disc is completely listenable. He plays upon his fondness for celtic music by incorporating the flute and pennywhistle in several compositions. The violin accompaniments are near ethereal.Three tracks have a marvelous piano reprise. This album will only rouse your feelings of peace and harmony. Each time I play it I find I like it better than the last playing. I highly recommend it!"
