CD Reviews

Good US Black Metal from Oregon
R. Beltran | Garden Grove, CA. USA | 08/21/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I have listened to Thy Infernal'sprevious release and Warlords of Hell is a worthy release. These guys really know how to set the mood. They sort of remind me of early Marduk and a bit of Dark Funeral. Most of the songs are satanic and are played with emotionand brutality. This is another cd that US BlackMetal fans can add to their collection."
Good album with great intro

"I wish I'd see more of Thy Infernal around. They're every bit as good as some of these other bands but I can't find any other albums by them. An online search turns up an interview with them and... that's about it.

The first song is fantastic. It's a great introduction to the album and really sets the tone. The liner notes say something about Thy Infernal's extreme and very famous live shows... yet nobody has ever heard of them. The live pics look like they were playing in small bars. It would be nice if they released another couple albums and played at bigger locales.

My only problem with this album is the problem I have with all black metal... it gets repetitive. Some of the songs are standouts, like the first. Others just seem so repetitive in theme both musically and lyrically. I understand that black metal is all satanic - at least, that's what Thy Infernal claim in an interview with them. I still would have liked to see more diversity.

The four stars rating was being generous because I think the band is underrated and could go somewhere with a little chance. If they released another album just like this one I would have to give it only three stars. If they diversify a bit and make the songs sound a little different(something many black metal bands cannot do) I'll give it five stars."
