CD Reviews

Nice debut cd!

"i first learned of thomas anderson via the rolling stone's review of this cd. it was enough to pique my interest and i bought it. i had to special order it. it was worth it. i tend to connect with singer-songwriters, and thomas anderson has a nice lyrical style that reflects grad student angst. i think that's one reason i like the cd -- i was a grad student at the time, and his songwriting label is "angry young grad student music" or something to that effect. a couple of songs stand out: "she looks like rickie lee jones" and "the bride and the broomstick." the latter one, in particular, stings with its expose of relationships. i found the music behind the lyrics refreshing, too. very sparse, almost like early motels. this is not a top ten cd, but it is certainly worth buying if you can still find it. its great to listen to and follow up with thomas anderson's second cd, "blues for the flying dutchman." it's rewarding to see a good first effort followed up with even better musical and lyrical content. i hope he continues writing and playing."
