CD Reviews

Fantastic score that stands on its own
The Taminator | The People's Republic of Indiana | 12/17/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This score has a lot of good, strong tracks that complimented the movie perfectly. "You're My Brother," "Real Tears," "Simple Jack Trailer" and "Satan's Alley" are probably my favorites. The whole thing could have easily been paired with a more serious war movie, yet there are subtle touches here and there that it was written for a parody. One part of "Blow the Bridge" sounds like it could have come from Planet of the Apes, while "Simple Jack Trailer" and the vocal portions in "You're My Brother" and "Real Tears" remind you of the cliches that inspired those scenes in the movie.

This score stands on its own, but at the same time doesn't let you forget to laugh a little. Definitely take advantage of listening to Amazon's sample tracks before committing to the CD; scores aren't for everyone. If you're looking for the pop tunes, get the soundtrack. If you love movie scores, definitely give this one a shot."
Sultry beats to an awesome movie
- Kasia S. | New York City | 05/27/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I'm a big fan of the movie because it was deliciously hilarious but the music is seriously stunning. The first thing I noticed when I watched the movie was the luscious and deep throbbing rhythm of a really good movie soundtrack while laughing at what was really going on. I think this combination really works here and the music is memorable, certainly adding to the movie. One can literally hear the jungle, murky darkness and wind chimes, wind blowing through bamboo leaves and when the action picks up so does the melody. Each track is short but really great, I like to put it on and get lost in an activity that needs a little more out of me, like working on a project or writing or doing my art stuff, the intensity helps me work when I need it.

Soundtracks are my favorite music to collect; I have been drawn to scores and original movie music ever since I was a kid, half the time I would be more excited about a cool movie coming out because of the music, especially if it was a costume drama. In this case a comedy does a brilliant job of involving serious and real action music to its advantage.

This is a great buy for anyone who collects and enjoys movie music.
