Synopsis

Album Description
A very tasty second helping from the amazing Waybacks of San Francisco. Burger After Church runs the musical gamut from a Mediterranean mandolin duel (Turkish Stalemate), to an infectious swing that showcases the band's incredible chops and feel (Bright Place), to an achingly beautiful rendition of Floyd Cramer's Last Date, to a sizzling fiddle tune (Prairie Doggin'), to a haunting Scottish folk tale(The Return) that songwriter Archie Fisher wrote especially for this release as a sequel to the Witch of the Westmereland. Other "acoustic mayhem" surprises lurk on the eleven cuts of this must-have CD.

CD Reviews

Holy Buckaroos, Churchman!

"If you love acoutic music, good clean fun and great songwriting don't pass up "burger after church." This cd is seamless from one song to the next. There are virtuoso instumenentals, story telling ballads and a true sense of what Newgrass music is all about. The Waybacks take great musicians, group them together add water and make one great foot stompin cd. Their blend of folk, blues and country are a can't miss. Fun for the whole family!"

""Burger After Church", the second collection of genius work from The Waybacks, serves to satisfy the appetite whet by first for quality "new grass", humor and virtuoso musicality. Each piece on this CD is a demonstration of not only the group's individual talents, but, and more impressively, the unique chemistry that exists between and within the group. Their rendition of "Last Date" is inspired. Bar after bar of gently twisted improvisation leads you through the familiar tune to places that Floyd and Roy never new existed within the melody. "The Return" is sure to raise the hairs on the back of your neck as we're transported to another time and place to witness a myth come to life."Police Dog Blues" exemplifies the humor of this gang that demonstrates that they have yet to take them selves too seriously, and that they're still willing to laugh at themselves for our entertainment.James, Stevie and Jacques interactions are pure genius. If you love good music, whether you are a bluegrass fan or not, you will love this CD. Buy it and share it with those you love."

""Burger After Church" continues to move The Waybacks to the forefront of the evolution/revolution of Bluegrass to a place which includes: zazz, blues, and some of the best accustic playing which can currently be heard on the planet. Like Chris Thile of Nickel Creek, James Nash's guitar playing is among the top ten who have ever played the instrument. Stevie Coyle's finger style guitar is on a plane with Jorma Kaukonen. Together, they "peel the paint off the ceiling", all with accoustic instruments. This is a great piece of work by a great group of artists."
