CD Reviews

Re-Recordings but OK

"Initially I was disappointed in this 2 CD set. I discovered Spotnicks on some internet venues and enjoyed the music posted along with video. I ordered this CD hoping have a great take along source of Spotnick tunes. This is a set of "re-recordings" of Spotnicks tunes. After researching the set a bit, I discovered that they are indeed Spotnick recordings. The CD case and inside cover say nothing of who the artists are and when and were the recordings were made. If I could I would change my rating from 1 star to 3 stars but Amazon does not allow you to edit your star rating. You will enjoy the recordings if you can get past the fact that they do not sound "exactly" like the early 1960's versions"
Beware - these are NOT the original recordings!

"I often research older bands that I had missed in my many years of music collecting and listening. As I have a soft spot for surf guitar music, I had come across an interesting article on the band Spotnicks and was intrigued by the write-up and the descriptions of their tendency to dress in space suits. Surf guitar and space suits, how could I go wrong? Thinking that a Greatest Hits compilation would be a good place to start, I ordered this CD from Amazon. Nowhere in the description on Amazon does it say "re-recordings", but that's what this is. No original recordings, these are all re-recordings. When? Who knows, the album doesn't say. Are these all the original band members? Who knows, the album doesn't say. Is it ANY of the original band members? Who knows, the album doesn't say. This is not to say that the music is bad or a total waste, I just think that if an album is called "Greatest Hits", it should darn well be the original recordings OR there should be a great big disclaimer stating that these are re-recordings. Shame on the Spotnicks and shame on Amazon for false advertising."
