DELIGHTFUL DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS TO CONTRA MUSIC
harvard-fiddler | boston, MA United States | 10/18/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Among dance styles in practice today, the contra dance, which has identifyable roots to at least the 18th century anyway, can claim to be as adaptable to music style as any. At least in the more enlightened dance halls. So why is it a surprise to see an adaptation on a fugue, that in fact is truely danceable, on this collection of music produced by New England's premier publisher of contra dance music. I guess I shouldn't be and neither should you. Just get it and enjoy it. And you will find other delights from around the world, all making this a truely fine album. Oh, and the fiddling technique is surperb too."
This band is such a blast!

"I'm not a musician, but I am a contra dancer. I can't tell you the derivation of the music and name each specific jig and reel as they come at me when I'm on the dance floor. I don't really know that much about the history of dance. I can tell you that I love contra dancing, I love this band live, and I have tons of contra dance CDs. This one gets lots of airplay in my house. It's a great introduction to the world of contra dance music (if you've never heard it before), and a great addition to any collection.

If you're in the Massachusetts area, you owe it to yourself to dance to this band live. They're wonderful.
