The Milroys ought to be TOP TEN!!
Douglas Brown | Livonia [MI] & Toledo [OH] USA | 05/04/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"What a joy to finally hear the long anticipated album by The Milroys, founding members of the late lamented Tangerine Trousers. Calling on the support of Railroad Earth, Caitlin & Thad Cockrell, Al Perkins, Sally van Meter, and the Persuasions' Jerry Lawson, the album avoids the thinness expected without the backing of the Trousers' crew.

Husband and wife John and CJ Milroy wrote all ten of the songs, and it's incredible how many already sound like standards, including "My Favorite Heartache," which kicks off the program. "The Marrying Kind" is pleasant enough, but it is with the dazzling "Silver Bullet" that the album rocks into high gear--this deserves to be on every top ten one can think of. "The Good News Gospel Hour" recaps one of the Trousers' most rousing numbers, followed by the delicious rockabilly of "I'm not going to the Jailhouse over You," which wraps up the most absorbing protion of the program. "Hallelujah Time" is probably sung by Jerry Lawson (credit for individual songs is not given), and it serves as a reflective moment after the highs of the previous three songs. The rest of the songs have their many attractions, not the least of which is The Milroys' superb sense of memorable tunesmithing as well as CJ's gorgeous vocals (not to slight John's evocative baritone).

Do not wait. The Milroys will provide repeated enjoyment beyond that of almost any music you can find today, combining folk, contry, rockabilly, gospel and rock in a unique and enthralling synthesis you won't soon forget. And while you're at it, pick up the two albums by Tangerine Trousers. They are stone classics."
