CD Reviews

Intensely luscious, sensitive and beautiful

"Stephen Duffy recorded most, if not all of this CD in his room. This is one of those CDs that you find yourself listening to over and over and over -- and the melodies and lyrics stay stuck in your brain for days and days. Although this CD is nearly a decade old...it's a keeper. If you are into amazing singer/songwriter stuff...you must hear these songs...as they will hold up over time. Apollo 8 in '68...or whenever...obviously made a huge impression on childhood Stephen as The Lilac Time's new CD ("Looking For a Day in the Night" on Cooking Vinyl -- out in the UK, and this summer, here in America) makes another reference to the memory. Stephen's the type of musician who would rather write and put out what he wants than go for the money-makin' hits and flashy PR scene. His music is intensely personal, and poetic enough to somehow relate to listeners...or at least engage us. I would have to say that the song "Madresfield" is one of my favorites....ever. TLT have many influences....the band name coming from a Nick Drake song. If you like Belle, Elliott, Aimee Mann....Nick....you will enjoy and appreciate Stephen and company as well."
A must have CD!

"Outstanding from start to finish! Stephen Duffy and the Lilac Time do not disappoint with Astronauts. The extra tracks are well worth the purchase of this CD if you already own the original version."

"I dont know what you call this music - folk-pop, sophisti-pop, dream pop? Whatever it is it truly is just beautiful, but not so brittle that yu cant sing along to whilst driving in the car. In fact anyone who spends far too much time stuck in traffic needs to be listening to this music to ease the stress - buy it now. and if you like it - check out the rest of Lilac Time AND Stephen Duffy - the guy is a genius....."
