The Fizzies- an LA based band proud to represent East hollywood- have one upped the resurgence of jellies, tights, and legwarmers by channeling some 80's icons like The Cars and Talking Heads into a new musical style with its own poppy effervescence. Produced by ET Thorngren(Grandmaster Flash, Bob Marley, The Von Bondies), the tag team duo of tom Banghart and Moira Marquis (Rufus Wainright, Simple Minds), and Cool G Murder (The Eels, Ben Lee, Karen O), it's a heaping helpin' of tasty goodies. The new album has tracks that range from 4-on-the-floor dance (the catchy,hip beats of "High") to the lo-fi fuzz ('Smack Davis") to "In A House," whose hooks are so catchy, you'll have to stop yourself from hitting the back button at song's end so you don't miss gems like the closer, "Garbage Generation," that'll leave you salivating for more, like any good candy should. Fronted by David Grover, aka "DJ Freakstyles," and sometimes "Grover." The Fizzies are a band that really know how to get a crowd jumping, singing, and most of the time, high and happy. The bands line-up is a mix of foriegn (Balazs Antal on guitar, first of Hungary, now of hollywood, jazzy/chill house producer in his own right) and domestic (Dave Cole...ex south shore Tahoe punk on bass and Scotty Lund..the man on sticks...Agent Orange, Stonehoney) fire that is igniting a storm of buzz with their first full-length release, "Contest Popularity." The Fizzies have opened up for the The Go-Go's, Giant Drag, and Athlete and have cultivated loyal fans across the southland'...and across the country. Currently, The Fizzies are 19th most added at CMJ at this press release and steadily climbing up the college/alt/indie charts.
