CD ReviewsSick of pop Alexander Reeser | Elkton, Maryland United States | 07/09/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "back in 2002 i became sick of pop. this album along with outhud's s.t.r.e.e.t dad were my relief from all the pop madness. since then whenever anyone asks me "what kind of music do you listen to?" i say to them indpendant and prog/art rock. that is exactly what this is: an instrumental-only modern rock band with prog elements from bands like yes and genesis. it is heavier than those older bands but they are extremely original (unfortunatly they broke up. their new name is Early Morning Band). buy it from your local small time cd shop though. amazon has more money and mergers than they know what to do with. poor, poor, cdnow. where have you gone...?" Review from Basement-life.com Alexander Reeser | 10/03/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "Another year, another instrumental band. Yes dear readers, I'm completely
aware that I probably extol the virtues of far too many acts that can't even be distinguished from one another, but I won't hesitate to say that we've got another winner here. The Feud come from the Dianogah school of heavy indie prog but they take it easy on the metallic irony opting instead to combine some shred worthy moments with short Zappa-like keyboard segues and technical disobedience. The quintet is full of talented players, and the dual drummer attack is certainly a nice touch, making some of the busier parts of the record the most engaging. They still do a solid job of drifting through lighter grooves, but when they crank it up the extra notch things really seem to get frantic and sound increasingly original. Language Is Technology succeeds in showing some real intensity and it is pulled off without the bombast of Mogwai or the turbulence of a band like Oxes; the product is good old instrumental rock, like the kind Trans Am used to mess with, and there are enough fresh ideas to make the record a memorable listen from start to finish. If nothing else, its worth checking out the record's closing suite "There Is No Sleep / Desized", a typically charged 10 minute run that reeks of musical imagination while occasionally and almost comically toying with the limits of repetition and likewise the listener's patience. The Feud have added another page to the canon of talentedinstrumental acts on the market, and while the list is growing at a dangerous rate (where have all the singers gone anyway?) its worth noting that they are just as talented as many of their predecessors." |
