Synopsis

Amazon.com
On its sophomore effort, this British quintet moves from the Beatles and Byrds influences of its likable debut to an edgier punk pop sound. The thickened distortion in the guitars and the more prominent pessimism in the lyrics don't spoil the pleasures of the music, however. The lyrics are simple, but Nick Cope's vocals and Nick Burton's guitar are at once melodic and personal, and they feed off the energy of the rhythm section to make these songs causes for celebration. The best songs, like "Wembley" and "Everything Falls Apart on Me," boast choruses that spring free from the verses with a delirious release of soaring harmonies. --Geoffrey Himes

CD Reviews

I don't get tired of listening to this.

"I bought this cd for 34 cents at a used CD store and was very pleasantly surprised at it... Definately the best deal ever on a CD. All the songs have the slightly rough but very pleasant smooth punk sound I enjoy... All the songs are great, but so far the best two are 2. Fun and 3. House on the Top of the Hill. The Candy Skins are reminscent of Better Than Ezra, except a lot more pessimistic and with a light dash of the Foo Fighters. Actually they're not really like Better Than Ezra. In short, anyone who enjoys the attitude of punk but doesn't -require- that it be loud and grinding will enjoy this CD. It's just... music! Good music!"
Came across this and love it

"I happen to come across this tape way back in the day and decided to listen to it. This is not the kind of music I normally listen to....but I loved it just the same. It is upbeat and alternative. The music that I listened to at the time I found this tape were everything from temple of the dog, cranberries, and breeders, to metallica, nine inch nails, and white zombie. This is not like any of these bands....but I loved this tape just the same. I've been looking for this album for the last year and I'm glad to see that they still have it out there. Go CandySkins!"
