Synopsis

Product Description
(CD + DVD set) The Atomic Bitchwax, long relegated to and written off as stoner rock, have come into their own. In 2005, fresh off the heels of their appropriately titled third full-length, 3, the band hit the road hard. The drama surrounding the departure of guitarist Ed Mundell (also of Monster Magnet) was long behind them, and for the lineup of Keith Ackerman (drums), Chris Kosnik (bass, vocals), and former Core frontman Finn Ryan (guitar, vocals) the future looked great. So this is where the bus flips, right? Wrong. The chronicle of The Bitchwax goes up, down, up and further up. The future actually was great. MTV was demanding dozens of songs to score two new speed chaos-based shows, Homewrecker and Fast Inc., Ween's side-band The Moistboyz was calling with tour offers, and rock guru extraordinaire Jack Endino (Nirvana, Nebula, Soundgarden, Mudhoney) stepped forward and said, 'Hey, you guys rock, let's put it to tape.' So in the middle of touring behind 3, the trio hit the brakes in Seattle to record four brand new, Endino-fied studio tracks plus a raucous live set at Seattle's Sunset Tavern. Boxriff captures everything that makes The Atomic Bitchwax one of the planet's most criminally underrated rock bands. Catchy hooks, classic riffs, the airtight interplay of Kosnik and Ackerman's rhythms, Ryan's jazz-inspired interludes and solos, it's all right there. And in transcending stoner rock's simplistic limits, they've taken the initiative to prove to their audience that over the years and even with the 1/3 lineup change, The Bitchwax have lost none of their edge, live or in the studio. From the ripping lead that opens STD, to the epic fuzz dirge that closes Kiss The Sun, straight through to the live sing-along reinterpretation of fan favorite Birth To The Earth and the video document to prove it all, this is a band letting the world know that they're more than on top of their game...not that they needed to say it.

CD Reviews

Not a bad wee album
Adam Brami | Auckland, NZ | 11/21/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I've been a fan of ABW for quite a while now.. Awesome riffs, and spacey solos accompanied by crashing drums and killer bass..

The new songs aren't the best I must admit, but the 13 or so live tracks, truly give you the feel of what they sound like live, which aint bad.

If I have one complaint it's that they haven't changed up the songs (they're pretty much the same as they aappear on the previous albums) unlike Fu Manchu in Go for IT live who have re-jigged afew of their tunes to give them a fresh feel.

They're playing in front of a bunch of yokles from Hicksville, Alabama who are painfully loud at times, but all in all, this album would go dwon well with any fan of The Bitchwaxs's riffs.. Also, features is a bonus DVD of the live show. Don't expect bells, whistles or fireworks. This is pretty much stand and deliver stuff.. But cool nonetheless."
So Come On

"This is an awesome 4 track extended play and also a great live performance, theres also an extrordinary extra dvd of the same concert with cuts like "so come on" and "kiss the sun" along with huge versions like Floyds intros and Purpples covers like "maybe im a Leo" you have to check out the drummer of this band who saddly left them after the release of this album , he is extraordinary and remarkably goood with the drums, they have now a replacement wich I havent listened but lets see further, in the meantime get Boxriff wich is full of amazing riffs by the way.
