Fans of the Glenn Miller Orchestra know that when Glenn had died a hero in WWII and the war had ended his widow Helen reformed the original Glenn Miller Orchestra along the lines of the extremely successful AAF Band appointing Glenn's old tenor sax player and vocalist as leader of the band. Tex Beneke was fortunate enough to hire The Mellolarks led by the lovely Ginny O'Connor who were to replace the Crew Chiefs who had been the vocalists with the AAF Band. Through a curious set of circumstances the great Henry Mancini was at that time arranging and playing piano with the band, one of his extra duties was to coach the Mellolarks and it was not long before an attachment was established between Ginny and Henry and they were soon engaged to be married.
