REALEST MC IN HIP-HOP AND REGGAETON
The Gorilla | East Coast | 10/26/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've had this CD for over 3 years now, and I never get bored of listening to it. This is the absolute best reggaeton cd ever created. The fusion of dope lyrics and bumpin' beats make this the equivalent to a Illmatic cd or Ready to Die. I have to say that when I first heard Tego, I wasn't feeling him. I hated his nasaly voice and his repetitive lyrics. Then my sister bought El Abayarde, and that's when I became a religous fan. Sounds corny, but I shaked Tego's hand when I went to a concert a year ago. 5/5 stars, Favorite songs are Abayarde, Pa' Que Retozen, Loiza, No me Explota, Guasa Guasa, Dominicana, Cambumbo. I basically like every song. I never skip ahead to any song. ABSOLUTE BEST CD. YOU CANT LOVE REGGAETON AND NOT HAVE THIS CD."
Reggaeton went international because of this...

"Tego graduated from a Puerto Rico music conservatory with percussion as his concentration. It certainly shows as he rips apart any beat on his way with words you hadn't heard in ages but all greatly intertwine and add to his lyrical flavor. People that do not understand spanish will miss on much of the experience but any person that likes good beats and good rhyming has to appreciate the hability of this ugly but talented dude who with this CD sparked the world's curiosity for reggaeton that led to Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Ivy Queen and Wisin y Yandel hit the Euro and North American airwaves and hit deep within the spanish speakers and international beat lovers alike. A great intro to how much fusion can go into this genre and how it ties into Puerto Rican folklore (the established salsa soneo, the Jamaican dancehall/reggae & the U.S. hip hop). A must-have CD for anybody that wants to get a taste of reggaeton and a guaranteed party maker. If you understand how Tego rhymes, an ecstatic musical experience. Oh, and about Cali Playa 415's review (again), throughout his review history (check it out if you're interested why such strong feelings) he is basically a hip hop fan that is a reggaeton hater and has continually given one-star reviews to the genre's best performing records, most of those ratings in a couple of days, maybe because of having lost a rhyming battle to a reggaeton singer or some similar traumatic experience :-). The validity and objectivity of his reviews are for you the readers to judge. Give yourself a chance to like reggaeton and start with Tego's 2003 record, you won't regret it."
