Solid Album from M.O.P. Alum - Could've Been Better
E | 09/20/2004
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Any fan of hardcore east coast underground hip-hop knows that the Mash Out Posse, M.O.P., puts it down like no other crew. M.O.P. affiliate head-smasher Teflon spits wickedly with the same furious energy of his right-hand men, Billy Danzenie and Lil' Fame (aka Fizzy Womack). Verbally, Teflon is supremely endowed, the kid is nice, 'nuff said. He delivers a very solid first time effort with "My Will;" it's just too bad we haven't heard anything else from him, in terms of a sophomore album.

First of all, the label under which this album was recorded went under a few years ago, so it's out of print, and can be extremely hard to find. Nevertheless, this album was HEAVILY slept-on, even when it was first released. It's only 10 tracks long, making it something like an extended EP. I think that's good how Tef decided to give us something short and to the point, but still enjoyable. I've always felt that hip-hoppers should take a nod to the way other genres like jazz CDs cut down on the number of tracks on their albums. I understand the emcees want to give us more for our money but it's like most of the time in hip-hop/rap CDs, the more tracks heightens the possibility of more needless filler. Anyway...

The only real complaint I have with this album are the few songs where Tef has an R&B chick doing the hooks; her less-than-average and lackluster vocals really detract from the LP's highlights, including the first song ("Gotta Get Ova"). While there are a few head-on bangers (like the M.O.P. produced "Nigga Whut"), there are some beats that are only average, kind of slowing down the pace of the album. Lastly, I personally think M.O.P. and Tef could've done a little bit better with many of the hooks on the songs. Such a case is, to me, the first song: while the mediocre hook (or lack thereof) is being done, there's a lot of silence, which kind of made me want more out of a chorus.

Other than that, if you can get past the lackluster R&B vocals, and a few mediocre choruses, you'll find that Teflon's "My Will" is an enjoyable hard-to-find release. You know how that goes - you'll be the envy of all your homeboys (and homegirls) when you have something they can't find! Peace!"
Good solo debut for Teflon

"An affiliate of M.O.P., the raspy voiced Teflon delivers a solid album for his debut. Short in terms of songs, only 10, 1 is almost a classic, 1 is ok, the other 8 are very solid songs. Guests rap on 1 song (M.O.P.) and do the hook on 2, so even though there ain't a lot of songs, you get a good deal of Tef on here. I heard him on some M.O.P. projects and his voice and flow stand out and he keeps it goin' on this album as well. Prodcution is decent. M.O.P. do 4 sogns, Laze E Laze, Big Jaz, and 4 people I never heard of all do 1 song. For M.O.P. fans or fans of that type of street rap get this one for your collection.

"Teflon of M.O.P is probably one of the most underated emcee, his flow is very intense, every track will relate to you one form or another its one the best I've heard since M.O.P Warriors, but this album was release 1997 well it only tells you that this intelligent and eloquent cat has been slept on, the beats a street soldier beats like the type you take to military school his metaphors and vocal patterns are astounding, sonically he must be undeniably one of the best at spitting, this cat makes a lot of since, he is talking about things which re goig on today again another cat ahead of his time, my advice purchase this genuine artefact"
