Synopsis

Album Description
Sub-titled 'Significant Singles The R&B Chart Hits & Flips 1997-84'. Mid-priced double disc set with 28 of the finest recordings this timeless smooth soul great scored with after leaving his post as vocalist for Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes in 1976 & striking up a solo deal with Philadelphia International. Featured are all of his U.S. chart hits for that powerhouse label during his stay with them from 1977-1984, including 'Close The Door', 'Love T.K.O.', 'I Don't Love You Anymore', 'Turn Off The Lights', 'Can't We Try' (from the film 'Roadie') and 'You're My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration'. This collection is a better value than Capitol's 'Greatest Hits' package as it focuses strictly on his classic Philly International output (i.e. no filler material), including both hit singles & their hard to find flipsides, and costs just a few dollars more even though it offers 13 more tracks (nearly double the number of the U.S. collection).

CD Reviews

The most comprehensive Pendergrass collection to date...
Justo Roteta | Los Angeles, California United States | 06/12/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This historic double-CD package compiles virtually all of Teddy Pendergrass' 1977-83 Philadelphia International singles along with the "B" sides. Dennis Lyons' extremely informative and exhaustive liner notes round out the package very nicely. Thankfully, the collection's producers chose to include the full-length album versions whenever possible (as opposed to the 7" single edits). No serious fan of 1970s R&B should be without this package."
Bringin' it all back home!

"Teddy Pendergrass fans rejoice! Here is the 2-disc set that will keep you from having to buy each album he released during his Philidephia International days! Together, the 28 song set pulls the best of "Teddy Bear" as well as songs found on the b-side of those vinyls. With so many Teddy throwback albums on the market, this collection will take care of any withdrawls your collection may be experiencing. He definitely had the gift for giving a voice for romance, seduction, and straight-up sex talk. He also found a place for the old dance 'the bus stop' while getting up, getting down, getting funky and getting loose. Pop this into the carosel and it will be just like old times."
