Synopsis

Product Description
In the Spring of 1964, Ms. Shirley Caple of Lake George Village, NY, visited the famous "Bitter End Coffeehouse" in Greenwich Village (THE place to be seen if you were a folk singer in the 60's) It was there she met an African-American folk singer named TEDD BROWNE. Browne, who was already well known for his historical songwriting, was intrigued by Shirley's tales of the rich history from her hometown region. He was so impressed that he went to Lake George for two months that very summer! The result was this album. LAKE GEORGE MUSICAL PORTRAIT was originally released in 1964 and contains twelve wonderful songs that portray the history, legends and folklore of the Lake George and Adirondack region. The music is easy to listen to, the words fully understandable and historically accurate. Making for a fun way to learn about the history of an area visited by thousands of tourists every season, curious to learn these facts. This unique album is available here for the first time on compact disc and has not been available to the public for more than 40 years. The Weedgie Brothers of Weedgie Music-BMI located two rare monaural vinyl copies of this album and beautifully restored them on this incredible CD. Using the very latest proprietary digital technology designed in Switzerland, Larry DeVivo of Silvertone Mastering digitally re-mastered the original vinyl. The result is a brand new CD recording that sounds unlike any vinyl-based restoration ever heard. Tedd Browne was born in Savannah, Georgia. He set the history of Savannah to music on SAVANNAH MUSICAL PORTRAIT. Another of his albums, SCARLET RIBBON contained many familiar folk tunes. As a performer, he enjoyed singing to live audiences across the United States, including colleges and universities. Browne said that his work as a singer was a very rewarding experience to him; however, he felt that his work of composing historical songs is the most important part of his musical career. Tedd Brown was murdered in his own driveway in Cleveland, OH in 1968, a victim of random racist violence, but his music lives on. Weedgie Music is dedicated to the restoration of historical albums to be released anew and feels that the art of music must be shared by all.
