CD Reviews

79 Minutes of Joy

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Taking an equal amount of tracks from the first five albums--between 3 to 4 each--"Collection" offers an interesting career oversight that few Tears for Fears compilations offer. It covers their entire catalog, without avoiding the b-sides, and just as important, without overlooking the hits.

For instance, a lot of TFFs compilation albums shun The Hurting almost completely. Collection, however, includes four tracks from that album: Mad World, Ideas As Opiates, Memories Fade, and Change.

Meanwhile, from Songs From the Big Chair and The Seeds of Love, it includes the bonus tracks Empire Building and Always in the Past, respectively. And for the grand finale, it includes an unedited version of Shout (although the packaging says it's edited) and Sowing the Seeds of Love.

Overall, it's a great way to hear Tears for Fears' entire career. I highly recommend it.
