The dark presages !
Hiram Gomez Pardo | Valencia, Venezuela | 11/23/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Sergei Taneyev (1856-1915) was a very high appreciated musician in the czarist regime. Listening it you may realize how Rachmaninov was deeply influenced for him . But neither Tchaikovsky nor Rachmaninoff are capable to surpass him in the rapture melodic , expressiveness and explotation of instrumental possibilities . Taneyev is much closer to Mussorgsky than anyone of his colleagues and that distinction is crucial to get involved of a cold Caucasian atmosphere blending these dark shadows with that taken root religious fervor of the Russian people .
