Tall Tall Trees sophomore record, moment, released February 2012 on their own label Good Neighbor Records, has been called a an LP of majestic sonic qualities"(Groopease). Originally sparked by a group camping trip into the Alaskan wilderness, the album tells the tale of a man searching for communion with nature and the people around him. Hinged on the writing of jazz bassist turned electric banjo wielding songwriter Mike Savino, and the innovative support of guitarist/keyboardist Kyle Sanna, bassist Benjamin Campbell, and percussionist Mathias Künzli, the band seems to have made a mission of defying expectation and challenging any notion of genre.  Recorded at Dreamland Studios (Fleet Foxes, Beach House) near Woodstock, NY by Matthew Cullen (My Morning Jacket, Ray Lamontagne), and mixed by Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog, Man Man), the album is lush with soundscapes that evoke the grandeur of the subject matter, taking the listener on an adventure in folk, rock, and psychedelia. From the gentle piano chords of the 70s tinged synth-laden opening track Highwire , to the sweeping icy flourishes of Men and Mountains , the album moves along with an urgent, yet relaxed pace. Moment finds Savino pushing the banjo further into new territory, unleashing a full on banjo Bhangra assault on "Waiting on the Day", then bowing the pensive pulse of closer Nothingless. Nine tracks, each with it s own personality, come together to tell a story of love, loss, and rebirth. Moment.
