CD ReviewsAwesomest Experimental True Jazz Denis | Hamburg, Germany | 03/20/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "...no, but seriously this is very very very impressive. For quite a long time I was looking for something particular in Jazz and especially for something Japanese and here I just found something I did not know about, but exactly what I was looking for inside myself. Takeo Moriyama kills the drums and himself- he simply batters his spirits out and the drumming really is furious and perhaps the most impressive in years. The trio that supports him are the bassist, pianist and saxophonist, Right- four out of hte five compositions on this CD are composed by Fumio Itabayashi, who, if I am not mistaken, is the pianist and the only other one is Hush-a-Bye. So, it is mainly original Japanese stuff- it is very strong throughout and the great thing is that it's got a touch of refined soul in some places. The pianist is miticulous and plays wonderfuly, the bassist also lays out his soul into the instrument and the saxophonist does not fall behind much at all, rather plays quite technically, though overall a feeling of experimentality does get across. So, if you are looking for experimental, but TRUE Jazz (and I mean something experimental within traditional bounds of Jazz), I would strongly advise to have a go at this. Absolutely fantastic interplay of Japanese music genius. WONDERFUL!!!"
