Adventurous-within-the-tradtion spirit

"This is a live concert (1991) of voice and tabla - you find out what the artists are made of in such a stark setting, nothing else to fall back on! (There is the tampura drone of course.) The performers have been recognized masters of their art for decades, and their confidence and adventurous-within-the-tradtion spirit shine forth.

The booklet has notes on the 3 pieces, including raga scale, lyrics, and more. The first piece is a khyal (33:41); followed by a tappa (light classical love song, 5:03); and the concert is rounded out by a thumri. All in all, one of my favorite recordings of Indian vocal music."
