CD Reviews

Absolutely amazing
Christopher R Ashley | Seattle, WA United States | 03/22/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"In this modern world of white-boy rap-metal, boy/girl bands, and bubblegum-factory pop, it is refreshing to hear a group of artists that are dedicated to making intelligent AND beautiful music. The music creates a glorious landscape around the vocals and takes the listener on a sensory journey. Mere words really can't describe the splendor of Christopher McBride's voice.....it should be experienced...with a few candles lit. This album is by far the best piece of work I have heard in ages. For those who use comparisons, think a little bit of Radiohead (circa The Bends), a dash of Spiritualized, a pinch of Live, and a drop of Elliot Smith, mixed together with a very creative and wonderful style of songwriting."

"What should be noted about tHe drop is that their music is not so much composed as exposed. The songs on this album do not speak to the listener, they speak through the listener, saying those things we know all too well but are afraid to admit to anyone, especially to ourselves. Listening to tHe drop can be very therapeutic, which is fortunate considering that they are so very sad that without immediate therapy you are likely to do something to yourself that you will regret. Okay, so that's the heady stuff. More importantly than the soul-searching, though, is the rocking. tHe drop rocks in ways that are incomprehensible to the third-generation Korn clones out there. They rock not with distortion and screaming, but with clarity and aching. My vote for the heaviest part of the record is the last line of 'upside down' where what rocks you isn't the sound, but the space where the sound should be. \m/"

"At first i had no idea who tHe Drop were....i was searching for what emo-rock bands e.g. Sunny Day Real Estate when i stumbled upon this band.....i listened to the samples and i thought "hmm sounds very nice"...well I was not dissapointed! This album is so but soo good...A very chilled experience with many sounds moving here and there thru the whole recordings....and the one thing that beats the excellent sound of tHe Drop are the lyrics of these songs....which are so mindblowing....this is truly one chilled soulmoving cd!"
