CD Reviews

Prime material
Michael Topper | Pacific Palisades, California United States | 08/28/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The sound quality might not be pristine, but it is good enough
and the performance will blow you away. This concert material comes from the perfect time in Bolan history--in mid-71, hot off the success of the first few T.Rex singles and about to unleash the iconic "Electric Warrior". This CD features stunning extended versions of staples like "Jewel", "Get It On", "Ride A White Swan" and "Elemental Child", with furious guitar jamming that belies his reputation as a teen idol. There's also some acoustic material that harkens back to the early days, sung passionately and well. This is an essential purchase for any T.Rex fan, and is certainly better recorded than the Tyrannosaurus Rex show at the Lyceum."

"First of all, can you beat the price? It's an absolutely outstanding live CD of T Rex in their prime, some of the songs are better here than on Born To Boogie which as you know was cleaned up extensively; check out Hot Love and Ride A White Swan to name a few....no, the sound quality is not always top notch, but come on, it was the early 70s and Marc still shouts "MONITORS MAN!" It's raw, real and such a genuine performance of all sorts. I wish I could have seen Marc Bolan live today say in like The Stone Pony in Jersey or Jannus Landing in St Pete....miss him. If you're a fan you cannot not have this in your collection."
