"This still living composer from Hungary has only got a few recordings of his works. There are some accomplished, even great works on this disc. It opens with his most famous composition, Concerto III for strings. A work unfolding like a marvellous crystal palace. Here it gets a rather modern reading - an earlier release on Hungaroton with the Ferenc Liszt Chamber Orchestra under Frigyes Sandor (long gone) was more human. But still a luminous work with a nice ending. The remainder are first issues as far as I know. And happily performed by people to whom the works were composed. King Singers with 2 choral works, very accomplished and well rehearsed performances. A solo piano work with the title "Landscape of Corpses" strikes an ominous atmosphere of being caught in a nightmare, performed by Peter Frankl. There is a quite concentrated song cyclus also, and a compelling Passacaglia for cello and string quartet ends the CD. The works rewards concentration on the part of the lister. It is not a disharmonious or angry composer, but he does offer you works of substance all the same."
