These are excellent performances and far and away the best Beethoven available at super budget price. In fact, this is one of the better Beethoven cycles in the catalog--it features Herbert von Karajan's orchestra, after all, only without Karajan, and all to the good too. The Seventh, in particular, has far more rustic vigor than with Karajan's "play-it-as-fast-as-we-can" brand of orchestral efficiency. The sonics are also very natural and appealing. At the price, this is well nigh unbeatable. --David Hurwitz
