23 madrigals, motets, ricercars, toccatas & fantasies composed 1520-1550 by Ganassi, Willaert, Gombert, Segni da Modena, Francesco da Milano, Cavazzoni, Fogliano & Arcadelt. The influence of the Book of the Courtier pushed the aristocracy of Europe to play musical instruments. Sylvestro Ganassi answered this social need with three treatises related to the art of improvisation and diminutions: Fontegara (1535), Regola Rubertina (1542), and La Lettione seconda (1543). This fascinating program highlights the intimate and virtuosic atmosphere of 16th century European courts.
