(4 out of 5 stars)

"The Switchblade Kittens are a quirky pop-punk band from Los Angeles who is fronted by the sassy Miss Drama and has defied convention and opted not to have a lead guitarist. Instead these three girls (and one guy!), have taken the somewhat unusual route of incorporating a double bass lineup. The result is quite fantastic; you won't even miss the lead guitar at all! The double bass, combined with the subtle beat of drums and Drama's girlish vocals make for a delightful pop-punk treat that is quite infectious. The lyrics are quite humerous and fun, which seems to portray a pretty accurate image of the band. With song titles like "Ode to Harry Potter," "All Cheerleaders Die," and "My Dad's A Janitor" (which is actually a very sweet song), you know you're in for a good time! Although I found myself singing along to every track, "Solar Plexus Kick" was by far my favorite song. It was a bit more fast-paced than the others and just overall seemed to be the most energetic complete with an aggressive "...and I know you're the one!" shout at the end. The other songs are a bit more laid back. There's also a super punked up version of that otherwise annoying Titanic theme song "My Heart Will Go On". I wonder what Celine Dion would think if she heard it?!?-Jessica O.
