Synopsis

Album Description
Our second album in the Irish series was a real treat to make. We recorded it at KWLC radio, Luther College, after playing the Haymarket, a whiskey and beer swillin' joint in Decorah, Iowa. The place is typical for Switchback fans: a real honest to goodness, smoke-filled music lover's room with dancing, drinking and feeling that the whole evening is barely under control. The real-folks Celtic music, pub-drinking songs, are like mortar that joins the bricks of original tunes that make up our sound.

CD Reviews

Takes You Away
Jayn Lando | Cordova, TN | 09/05/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Listening to this cd takes you away to another time and place - a timeless time at a neighborhood pub in ol' Ireland. You can close your eyes and pretend you are there with these songs and the spirit with which they are sung. Extremely talented musicians having a lot fun combine to make this a great cd to listen to over and over!"
All the energy!

"Switchback's live shows are very high-energy and fun! This album truly captures the experience and all the energy of being front and center at a Switchback show! The sound of Brian FitzGerald's guitar is full and crisp. The voices are strong. The overall sound of the CD is full and clear. The old favorites (traditional Irish standards) are vibrant and fun! It is fun to listen to this CD. It apparent that they had a lot of fun recording these songs and putting their own spin onto the standards. That fun comes though to the listener. The title track had me so very close to breaking out the bottle of whiskey and drinking a toast! Brian's guitar playing on "Moonshiner" makes it my personal favorite. Marty McCormack's beautiful tenor voice really shines on "Danny Boy". The Switchback original "Donegal Danny" is a comical story about a spirited little Irish character who some may say is quite a ladies man :*) "Golden Jubilee" is happy and uplifting. The quality of this CD has ignited my anticipation for "The Fire That Burns", Switchback's forthcoming album featuring the full band and all original music."
