"This band had all the right ingredients for mid-nineties rock: Layered guitars that moved from wall of noise squall to angular Drive Like Jehu lines to heavy pounding riffage and into buried but beautiful shoe gazing atmospherics. Occasionally, Swelter was doing all three at once with their three guitarists and sometimes keyboards and samples. All of this was backed by the kind of driving rhythm section that to my ears can only be described as the Jesus Lizard meets Unsane. The angst filled vocals, usually about betrayal, loss, hate, were often delivered through a bullet mic both in breathless style and full throttle yell."
