Good Outtakes Collection
Philip A.Cohen | Bay Harbor Islands, Florida United States | 01/10/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Castle Communications(now known as "Sanctuary Music") bought up the "Receiver" label, which had released several "Sweet" outtakes CD's(such as "The Private Collection","Live For Today",and numerous other discs),and this 2-CD set summarizes the best of the studio tracks that "Receiver" had released, and (with only one exception) omits those selections from the "Receiver" CD's that were from magnetism-damaged tapes(the tracks that had fluttery, unsteady volume) yielding a near perfect 2-CD set.It would seem that the "Receiver" had bought up abandoned mixdown reels that had been left behind at a recording studio. Some selections show the released takes in a work in progress state, while some are entirely different takes to the familiar ones.Pick up the group's original UK albums first, but if you're a fan and you hunger for more, this is a good place to start. It essentially renders the "Receiver" label CD's obsolete.Docked one star for providing no information about take numbers, recording dates, studios etc."
