"The Sugarplastic is easily one of America's finest pop bands. I hardly know where to begin with the praise: the lyrics are thought-provoking, hilarious, surreal; the melodies are almost insanely catchy--listen to a Sugarplastic song once, and it's in your mind forever; the quality of the musicianship is staggering. Numerous instruments are layered into the mix and songs often change into delightful, unexpected forms as they proceed. The band usually takes three or four years between albums, but the wait is always worth it. "Will" is fantastic and gets better with every listen. The folks at Geffen Records must have cabbages growing in their heads to have let this band slip through their fingers."

"this, the sugarplastic's fifth CD (i think?), is rife with terrific melodies, sharp riffs, curious words--it's sweetly

melodious, angular, strangely experimental and delightfully

dreamy as well. "the runaround" rocks like a "nicer" sonic youth; "what the boy said" could be an outtake from XTC's

"the big express" (that is a good thing!) and "hecate" is utterly transcendental, mesmerizing, beautiful, enchanting, wowing. it is a total crime this band is not more well known: they are probably sick to death of hearing that. buy this

and put it on before you go to sleep--it'll be a benediction to your dreams. what an astounding accomplishment. i live for this kinda pop."
