CD ReviewsPart Of It All A. Henderson | 10/02/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "70's soul/pop group Stylus, the only Australian artists ever released by Motown Records in the USA. Stylus toured with George Benson, Average White Band, Ike & Tina Turner, and Australia's "Little River Band". Japan's Toshiba-EMI re-issued 3 Stylus CD's in 1998/99. The fourth album from the Australian band Stylus was released in 1979. Lack of promotion meant the album was, in real terms, unheard except for ardent fans ! Stylus Are recording a new album to be released by Toshiba EMI Japan 2009/2010." Sleek Oz rock rockpool | Artarmon, NSW Australia | 12/20/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "If you can get anything by these guys, it will be well worth a listen.great vocal harmonies and tight playing.Although their recorded material never quite rivaled their live preformances,( kind of like sons of chaplin out of san Francisco)The band=Ashley Henderson , Bass , Ronnie Peers , lead Guitar,Sam McNally keyboards and a wonderful drummer Mark Meyer ,Peter Cupples and later Peter Roberts lead vocals/guitar where first rate.In their home country Australia they had no real major commercial success which Im sure to many loyal fans was a great mystery, these guys should have been massive, but a niche type of music in a tiny musical market just never really happened for them, still for my money great music is great regardless. If you love harmony and cool tunes , 70s west coast jazz rock you will dig Stylus. I think there was three or four albums put out, this one was the last as stylus. Peter Cupples and Sam McNally also put out a couple of solo things later after they had left this band . I have had a number of Stylus albums on vinyl & cassette at various stages through the 80s-90s ( which I dont have now..damn) but have never managed to obtain CDs of an Iconic Aussie band that where just so good.
I saw them perform as a one off reunion at The Basement in Sydney in 2005 which was great fun and to me, they still had not lost a thing . So here's hoping they get in to a studio and put some old and new down on CD." |
