Whatever We Have/Is All We Have Got...
winkingtiger | Oakland, CA | 01/06/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Isn't it strange that a group that only released four albums and a few singles has over ten 'best of' compilation CDs? I'm not sure why, they are all still in print! This is the one I bought, however...(the Brazilian version, at that!)

This disc is almost identical to 'The Singular Adventures Of...' except that this CD has all the singles of TSC in chronological order (the other one mixes them up), which is helpful if you want to follow their development over the course of their career.

Any fan should get ONE of these 'singles' collections, because many of the songs don't appear on their four original albums, and when they do, they're often radically different. For instance, on the original 'Cafe Bleu' album, the song 'My Ever Changing Moods' is quiet and introspective, with only a piano and vocals. The 'single' version of the song has a whole group with brass, drums & groovey bongos! Paul Weller was definitely fond of 'ever changing' arrangements (to suit his 'moods' I reckon).

So, for a no-frills, all-singles tour through the magic that was The Style Council, this is a nice, compact and thorough set. And if you want to hear the flipsides of all these singles, there's the 'Here's Some That Got Away' CD! ;oD."
How can you have been a teen in the 80s and not loved this!

"People, come on it's Paul Weller. Mr. 80s fun music. You try listening to "My Ever Changing Mood" when you're grumpy and I'll bet you can't stop yourself from smiling and wanting to dance. I like this cut because it includes most of the favorites - You're the best thing; ever had it blue, etc. etc. Every generation has had their musical icon and I think Weller is right up there for us 80s teens."
Not so good audio level

"This CDs has not a good audio level (low). I don't know if it depends on Style Council's muic or it it causes by a not so good digital remasterizing."
