Synopsis

Album Description
Stunt Rock built his career on countless spray-painted CDR's given away at shows in a drunken stupor. A total disregard for sequencing an obsession with samples gave way to a reputation as the new "punk rock" of the electronic scene in the Midwest. Addressing the emptiness of existence, while at the same time mocking it, This is Stunt Rock Vol. 3 is the most genuine assertion of the modern lifestyle ever committed to disc. Built on loop after loop of drum, guitar and movie dialogue, the album becomes a sort of looserOs Music Concrete. But is it actually funny? Fuck yeah! Rolling Stone says: This is Stunt Rock Vol. 3O is like a new sort of rock n roll comedy meltdown; irreverent, blue collar, foul mouthed, and beer fueled. This is Stunt Rock Vol. 3 will be an instant classic!

CD Reviews

No love for William Flegal?
Jose Jones | 08/06/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Only one review for this? I've been listening to this again lately and I'm struck anew by how good it is. No one else really does what William Flegal does. He's always put beside Doormouse, Venetian Snares, Otto von Schirach, et al., but it's just not the same thing. I suppose they describe him as being a breakcore artist like those guys, but it's something different. "This is Stunt Rock Volume Three" is Flegal at the zenith of his talent, in my opinion. It takes his particular style -- which is about fifteen million disparate elements (drum and guitar samples and obscure audio samples from everything and anything) -- and works it magically. You can just feel how absolutely assured he is with this album. With "Regret 1" he obviously had not fully figured things out yet (it was good but the early tracks feel sloppy). "Regret 2" was actually brilliant, too, but it was almost like a massive morose poem. This album continues the technical proficiency, but brings with it a lot of humor.

Stunt Rock's music always reminded me of the musical equivalent of a Hal Hartley movie. It's amazing to me what a storyteller he can be, and how much emotion he can evoke, while using all borrowed elements -- somehow bringing these snatches of movie and stand-up dialogue and samples together for something meaningful and emotional.

The overall experience is sort of ineffable. This album is perhaps a little looser, funnier, but I also think it's his best.

This is highly recommended not just for breakcore fans but for anyone who likes something a little different."
