"The performance is anachronistic for this music, but that's not the problem. It's that whomever did the transfer used a gate filter without understanding how it works. As a result, the sound notes come out of nowhere in an acoustically smothered environment, suddenly alive, then are immediately clipped off again. It's weird, and it doesn't work. Hopefully somebody else will issue Roger-Ducasse's fine quartet--but until that happens, this definitely won't do."
