CD Reviews

I can't stop listening to this band

"This album is so catchy and fun. The songs are pure pop. It's like a mix of Weezer, My Bloody Valentine, and the Velvet Underground. They have a great guitar sound, which I can't wait to hear live."
Songs are great, but album doesn't capture their live power

"Love the S4 -- been watching them gig in SF for a couple of years now. They just keep getting better and better. I really love their songs, especially Chris' slightly distant, Lou Reed-ish delivery, and Jake's huge, amazing guitar sounds. However, this album just doesn't capture the power of their live shows. They come off much more mellow, and even a bit boring in this recording. Really, they should just throw a mike or two up on stage and capture that sound and put it on wax. With that being said, it's still a great album. If you are lucky enough to live in the bay area, go see them play live, and you will know what I mean!"
Good debut, moody pop...

"that just sounds like moody pop but doesn't really do it in the lyrics departentI listened to advance copy of this album at my radio station (WKWZ) and am very happy with it. This album is quite strong. It starts off nicely with "Rebecca", a nice song in 3/4 that is hauntingly romantic. Chris Streng (the lead singer) also manages to rhyme Rebecca towards the end of this song. Clocking in at 5:42 this is the song that first caught my attention on the album. Other highlights are "Hydroplane", "All Mistakes Are Mine", and "Displacer". If you like the slower direction that Brit-pop is going in nowadays (i.e. Travis and Coldplay) you'll enjoy this album. It brings a harder edge and more electric guitar rather than acoustic to an already great sound. I'm already waiting for their next work."
