CD Reviews

Never as good as playing alive
Ripped off by Amazon | 10/24/1999
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This one could be one of my favorites of Steve's solo albums. Most are good songs, and a couple are great. Even "nothing but the Shell" could be a hit. At the stage, Steve Wynn use all his honesty and humility to brought an intense show. He plays the best songs of each album so the show is great, and he ended it with some of their early albums songs: When you smile, Halloween, Merritville, etc. If you ever like this man, and it's playing near your city, go to see him."
Steve Wynn Proves A Good Wine Gets Better As It Gets Older

"I have been following Steve's career since the 1982 release of the classic Dream Syndicate work, "The Days Of Wine and Roses." There is no coincidence that 1982 was one of Bordeux' finest vintages. Steve's solo career, which began in 1990 with "Kerosene Man," is illustrative of the fact that great artists, even outside the mainstream, can continue to create brilliant work when their hearts and minds are in the right place. John Agnello, who also produced "Sweetness and Light," pushed all the right buttons, moved all the right switches, and added great insight, skill, and support to this work. I hope John and Steve work together into the future. The songs here "kick the poop out of you," in the words of Mr. T. "Nothing but the Shell," "Favorite Game," and "500 Girl Mornings" are classic Steve Wynn: Guitar infestation coupled with the lyrical genius that really gets your mind grooving. Linda Pitmon's wild woman drumming along with Chris Brokaw's killer guitar work (Chris also works with Come) fully complement Steve's V.U. influenced guitar and vocals. BUY THIS CD!!!!"
