CD Reviews

Terrific solo debut
S. Taylor | Florence, MA USA | 10/10/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Steve Cradock is perhaps one of the more under appreciated contemporary guitarists out of England. He never over plays, and has a very melodic and creative ear. What is surprising about this disc is that, given that it is a guitarists solo debut, it is focused instead on the songs and their remarkable melodies. Cradock proves to be an able composer, arranger and singer. It is somewhat reminiscent of 70's era Beatles influenced British pop-rock (see Badfinger, solo Harrison, McCartney.) But this is not a copy cat effort. Cradock clearly has his own vision. The only criticism would be it is little more than 30 minutes in length. 10 gorgeous tunes and ending with an eleventh, brief sound collage of samples of each of the previous songs. Paul Weller sings back up on a couple of numbers and adds acoustic guitar on one. Other than that, Cradock plays all of the instruments ably and proves to have a fine singing voice as well. Highly recommended."
