CD Reviews

An incredible Rocket-Soul album!
06/18/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This Atlanta band makes some of the best music you'll ever hear with the best album I've heard in years. The vocals of Trina Meade are like Janus Joplin meets Tina Turner - truly no one sings any better. There's the powerful guitarwork by Tomi Martin, who also backs Madonna, TLC, etc. on tours and television. The bass and drum combination are way too good to be overlooked. With all this superior musicianship, its still not the highlight of the band, due to the unbelievable songwriting. This is one of those rare albums where every song will haunt you without relief, except for another listen. Start with the power of the opening tracks. "Remember" and "Mr. Lonely" show why rock and soul should be combined and explored more often and by more artists. "Jenny" is probably the strongest song on the album, with intense lyrics and a plaintive cry about incest and child abuse. This song is so good that its on the album twice - an electric version with the band and an acoustic track duo with Trina and Emily Saliers (Indigo Girls) at the end. It will break your heart. Next listen to "Another Song" when you need strength to move forward on your chosen path in life, with lyrics that have such power. On "Sunshine Blue" you'll reach to the inner region of your soul, and will want to sing along (good luck unless you have great range). This album is the bomb. It is no gimmicks, great music, the reason that music exists - to make you feel so good. Why this group is not on a big label and on the radio baffles me."
